Then watch my Lecture for Module 3. You may also want to read the section entitled, “Building the Great Pyramids” in your textbook. You can find it in Chapter 3 near the images of the pyramids.

Based on the information from the above sources, answer the following questions:

1) How do you think the great pyramids at Gizeh were built?  Who built them?  Talk about two conflicting theories.  Do you agree or disagree with either of these theories?  Why or why not?  Post your answer to the Discussion Board – Week 3 Discussion Essays and Responses.

Sample Essay 3: The Bauhaus

Is IKEA the new Bauhaus?

1) We have been discussing the Bauhaus. I think there is a good argument to be made that IKEA is the new Bauhaus. Its company philosophy with respect to the production, sale, functionality and practicality of its goods seems rooted in the Bauhaus. For this question, go to the website below on the Bauhaus and gain a thorough understanding of its philosophy and what it produced. Then go to IKEA’s website and select a piece of furniture.

Answer the following questions about your selected piece:

  1. How does this piece of furniture reflect Bauhaus principles of design? Talk about its materials, functionality, production, etc.
  2. What does IKEA say about this piece and how do their statements reflect Bauhaus principles?
  3. What piece of furniture from the original Bauhaus production does your IKEA piece remind you of? Discuss at least three similarities. (go back to the website on the Bauhaus to find a piece)

Grading Rubric for Essays: 

You will be given points based on how thoroughly you answered the question.  I will give you points for the following:

  • Providing specific examples of artworks that support your answer. (5 points)
  • Providing specific reasons for why you agree or disagree with the question.  These reasons should be supported by material from the textbook, lectures or course websites. (10 points)
  • Including vocabulary terms in your answers (correctly defined and used). (5 points)
  • Providing specific reasons for why you agree or disagree with your classmates’ responses.  You will not be awarded any points if you just say “yes, I agree” or “no, I disagree.”  These reasons should be supported by material from the textbook, lectures or course websites.  You need to respond to at least one other student to receive full credit. (5 points)
